The Internet was blowing up last night when the first officially released trailer of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was finally shown. If you haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favor and watch it now. Go ahead, I’ll wait.
Excited yet? What’s that? You don’t know who any of the characters are? That’s understandable considering the likes of Star-Lord, Groot, and Drax the Destroyer aren’t household names like Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man. That’s why Marvel decided to release character specific mini-trailers to give the world a taste of this oddball group.
The Guardians of the Galaxy film just got a whole lot beefier! Late last night, it has been confirmed that former professional wrestler and current MMA fighter Dave Bautista will be playing as the Thanos killer Drax the Destroyer!
If you had any doubts just how far Marvel was planning to go in their more “spacey” approach for their Phase Two movies, you can put them to rest. There’s been a pretty reliable tip stating that we will see the intergalactic police force Nova Corps play a part in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film.
Specifics on the Guardians of the Galaxy movie are still being ironed out, namely who will be starring in the lead roles. Many comic book fans wonder specifically on who will play as the furry weapons master Rocket Raccoon. Considering director James Gunn likes to stick with actors he has worked with before, this has lead folks to believe that everyone’s favorite racist redneck Merle Dixon, portrayed by Michael Rooker, from The Walking Dead could be a natural fit.
I’m sure a lot of you out there have already picked up a copy of The Avengers. Those of you who have already seen the hugely successful superhero romp are also aware of Thanos making a surprise appearance during the mid-credits scene. With more information recently surfacing on the Mad Titan’s inclusion in both The Avengers 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy, we can start to speculate how Marvel plans to lay out phase two of their movie lineup.
