‘Ninja Turtles’ shut down, release date pushed back

With recent rumors of script problems and obvious fan outrage for Michael Bay’s Ninja Turtles reboot, Paramount Pictures has temporarily suspended pre-production while also pushing back the release date from December 2013 to May 2014. The Hollywood Reporter’s sources are allegedly citing the script as the likely culprit. Taken from the Hollywood Reporter:

‘The issue is said to be the script. Paramount has delayed several big movies from this year to 2013, including G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Brad Pitt’s World War Z, leaving it with a spotty pipeline for the current year. Now it has halted work on its planned holiday movie for 2013, temporarily laying off preproduction staff and informing those prepping the film that the work stoppage is “indefinite,” according to sources. Another source close to the production says the movie has been pushed by ten weeks.’

In all honesty, this is probably a good thing. As has been said before, this reboot would have made the Turtles not mutants but instead aliens. I don’t know if Michael Bay simply didn’t understand the Turtles or needed to make it similar to Transformers for some reason but either way it is good that this has gone back to the drawing board. As always, UMDR will update you as soon as we know more!
